William A. Kretschmer Jr. Obituary – Cape Cod Times

HARWICH – William Anthony “Bill” Kretschmer Jr., “N2KNL”, 63, of Harwich, MA passed away on November 6, 2020 in Milton, MA after suffering from a stroke.

Bill was born in Syracuse, NY to William and Ursula Kretschmer.  He graduated from Liverpool High School in 1975.  Before retiring, he was a Water Technician for the Town of Yarmouth.  He was an expert ham radio operator, historian of radio stations from the 1950s to the late ’80s, a weather enthusiast, SKYWARN spotter, and storm chaser.  He was a member of the Barnstable, Pilgrim, Marconi, and North East amateur radio clubs and a merit badge counselor with Cape Cod Islands Boy Scout Council.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Mason of Harwich; daughter, Cara Kretschmer of Olean, NY; stepson, Robert Pirtle of Portland, OR; his sisters and their husbands, Jacqueline Kretschmer and Alan Hagberg of East Harwich, and Alexandra and Joseph Zarba of  South Yarmouth; his parents, of East Harwich; granddaughter, Luna of Olean, NY; his former wife, Dawn Turner; and cat, Maggie.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be planned for next spring.  Memorial donations may be made to Cape and Islands Council 224, Boy Scouts of America, 247 Willow St., Yarmouthport, MA 02675.
